Graveland

At the point where black metal was first getting started, Graveland were a battering ram of Discharge-style punk fused with the sense of epic melody found in Nordic epics such as Burzum or Emperor. Over time, the band has evolved into a newer style of densely-orchestrated ambient black metal similar to Summoning or early Gehenna, however with its own austere and commanding presence. In both taboo-breaking ideological developments and boundary-expanding musicality, Graveland has nurtured, cajoled and threatened black metal into finding new frontiers and transcending them.
