No artistic movement grows in a vacuum. In fact, it's tempting to portray nature as a large machine in which seemingly contrarian forces attempt to help evolution of the whole. Similarly, in any social era, the context it gives to metal music defines much of what that music addresses in concept, lyrics, interviews and aesthetic.
