Neptune Towers

When it first became clear that black metal was fading, three attempts were made to branch into neoclassical music (similar to black metal, except with different instrumentation) created in the ambient/darkwave area of music, which was developing at the time as a consciousness different from that of conventional electronica, thanks in many ways to labels like Cold Meat Industry and Spinefarm. These attempts were Neptune Towers, Beherit's "Electric Doom Synthesis," and the later albums from Burzum. Of the three, the Neptune Towers work gets closest to its inventors intention with an organic flow of sonic narrative which evokes a plaintive emotion of isolation and the fervent yet terrified warmth of a living creature looking beyond its mortality.
