Eagerly awaited for years, this album is a worthy followup to the early Incantation work in that it maintains the epic perspective in song layout needed to give these riffs their wizardry. Where "Mortal Throne of Nazarene" tried too hard to be intense constantly, "Diabolical Conquest" leans back and lets the rage building, capitalizing on both the fluid speed riffing and doomy grind in which this band specializes. It roars at full throttle when appropriate, with bass and drums and the seared guttural sustain of Daniel Corchado (Cenotaph) guiding streams of power chords into sentential structure. Notable is the first exploration in overt harmonization of phrase and some epic moments of breathtaking transitions on the dividing line between insane and abstractly, irrationally lucid.
