Blasting a sense of freedom into these spacious and direct anthems, Godflesh advance industrial grindcore by creating atmosphere for contrast in expression. From simple repeating patterns, riffs convert repetition into organic and functional motion where song direction had previously been trapped in mechanical action. This growth coincides with vocal harmony and structural development that emphasize continuity, forming positive music within a bounding, hyberbolic sound. Layers of shifting programmatic percussion reveal different scenes upon which guitars, vocals and a degenerate bass explore themes of freedom and nothingness. The earlier releases "Black EP" and "Tiny Tears" are included, with more guitar-heavy versions of songs from the same era.
