 | Most grindcore is not as much "way out" as it is "way around," meaning that it contorts itself to avoid having to face some issues head on. For example, the moralization that politics affords allows many to stand back and criticize without having to ever assess and express the values of life itself, focusing instead upon complaining about the manifestations of its negative mechanism. Blood transcends all of this formalistic boundary choreography, and makes a chortling, gurgling, rasping nightmare of blasting sturdy grindcore and organically distorted vocals. Songs are short, introducing themselves with a couple rounds of repetition and then transitioning, underground metal style, through a budget riff of a few quick downstrokes and a tempo change, into structural material conductive to change on a symbolic level in tone and arrangement within the song. As inspiration to these short manifestoes of darkness-obsession, lyrics focus on surreal circumstances in which the power relationships in life are mirrored by the presence of the death or great tragedy, amplifying daily life into a conflict of universal forces. While this sounds complicated it is rendered in basic english and vivid, poetic but disturbed metaphor. Although few will find this a pleasant listen, many will find it one of the most enigmatic grindcore albums ever made. |
