Although humanity still has an imperfect idea of how genetics and natural lifeforms work, we're going ahead with the process of engineering organisms because it makes us money. Bioengineered foods might save billions in pesticides and losses, and bioengineered organisms could produce more meat while requiring less space. In other words, how can it be sane not to develop these problems?

Of any system of understanding, the final details are the most difficult part to understand. Like the ending of a satisfying book, these are the bits that put everything else in perspective and make the whole an interesting read. Without these pieces, we have no idea what the outcome of biotech will be - and perhaps that alone is enough to keep our experiments in the lab and not in the fields as they are today.
