At nearly the same hour Kelli OâLaughlinâs parents buried their 14-year-old daughter this morning, police in Illinois announced an arrest in the teenâs brutal killing.
They also revealed that they believe the suspect had sent âtaunting and disturbingâ text messages to the girlâs mother, using her dead daughterâs cell phone.
That sounds totally malicious.
Like an evil person, with intent to harm, planning the crime for maximum cruelty.
What actually happened?
Kelli OâLaughlin got off her school bus at 3:40 p.m. last Thursday, and walked in on Wilson, who had broken into her familyâs home, Alvarez said. Wilson allegedly stabbed the teen, and fled with a bowl of foreign coins, the girlâs Ipod Touch, and her cell phone. Investigators say three witnesses saw Wilson leave the house, and were able to later identify him in a police line-up.
Detectives had tracked Wilson down using a key piece of evidence left at the scene. A wool cap with a rock inside had reportedly been used to break a window in the home. DNA tests conducted on the hat led investigators to Wilson, who has a long criminal history, including a conviction for armed robbery.
Aha. So it was an interrupted burglary and a jumpy perp.
Not nearly as exciting. The taunts are still demonic, but not as much the product of malicious forethought.
So what do we learn from this event? The cops locked the guy up:
Dart said there could never be justice for the OâLaughlins in the violent and tragic loss of their child. But for the community, the arrest brings some comfort. âPeople should be able to sleep a lot easier tonight.â - WHAAARRRGARRBLLL NEWS
What is this shit?
No one is sleeping better tonight. The misery is still there.
This guy is one of legion.
If we thought he was an INTENTIONAL, MALICIOUS and SINGLE-MINDED perp, we could at least say, "Oh, we burned the latest Mao-Hitler-Stalin-Satan."
But he's not that. He's just one of many scumbag citizens we keep around to prove that we're nice people.
