The true spirit of Europe

29 01 12 - 20:55

These are our people:

Following a strict code of behaviour resonant of Europe's imperial past, the ball is a social highlight of the Burschenschaft societies.

All male and often considered right wing and reactionary, the societies still indulge in fencing without protective clothing, and duelling scars are a symbol of honour. - The Telegraph

Forget the modern trends and crazes. Honor is eternal. So are culture, pride and warfare.

Which is it?

26 01 12 - 21:04

IQ is something that people ignore until they feel it is convenient to prove their points.

The divide between these articles is along the lines of left (everyone is equal) and right (social darwinism).

Earlier studies have found links between low levels of education and higher levels of prejudice, Hodson said, so studying intelligence seemed a logical next step. The researchers turned to two studies of citizens in the United Kingdom, one that has followed babies since their births in March 1958, and another that did the same for babies born in April 1970. The children in the studies had their intelligence assessed at age 10 or 11; as adults ages 30 or 33, their levels of social conservatism and racism were measured. [Life's Extremes: Democrat vs. Republican]

In the first study, verbal and nonverbal intelligence was measured using tests that asked people to find similarities and differences between words, shapes and symbols. The second study measured cognitive abilities in four ways, including number recall, shape-drawing tasks, defining words and identifying patterns and similarities among words. Average IQ is set at 100.

Social conservatives were defined as people who agreed with a laundry list of statements such as "Family life suffers if mum is working full-time," and "Schools should teach children to obey authority." Attitudes toward other races were captured by measuring agreement with statements such as "I wouldn't mind working with people from other races." (These questions measured overt prejudiced attitudes, but most people, no matter how egalitarian, do hold unconscious racial biases; Hodson's work can't speak to this "underground" racism.) - Live Science

So far, so good. A study makes an analysis. But once you read the following, suddenly liberals declare that you are not "scientific" any more:

One of the world's most eminent scientists was embroiled in an extraordinary row last night after he claimed that black people were less intelligent than white people and the idea that "equal powers of reason" were shared across racial groups was a delusion.

James Watson, a Nobel Prize winner for his part in the unravelling of DNA who now runs one of America's leading scientific research institutions, drew widespread condemnation for comments he made ahead of his arrival in Britain today for a speaking tour at venues including the Science Museum in London.

The 79-year-old geneticist reopened the explosive debate about race and science in a newspaper interview in which he said Western policies towards African countries were wrongly based on an assumption that black people were as clever as their white counterparts when "testing" suggested the contrary. He claimed genes responsible for creating differences in human intelligence could be found within a decade. - The Independent

Even though the science backs him up:

A 60-page review of the scientific evidence, some based on state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of brain size, has concluded that race differences in average IQ are largely genetic.

The lead article in the June 2005 issue of Psychology, Public Policy and Law, a journal of the American Psychological Association, examined 10 categories of research evidence from around the world to contrast "a hereditarian model (50% genetic-50% cultural) and a culture-only model (0% genetic-100% cultural)."

The paper, "Thirty Years of Research on Race Differences in Cognitive Ability," by J. Philippe Rushton of the University of Western Ontario and Arthur R. Jensen of the University of California at Berkeley, appeared with a positive commentary by Linda Gottfredson of the University of Delaware, three critical ones (by Robert Sternberg of Yale University, Richard Nisbett of the University of Michigan, and Lisa Suzuki & Joshua Aronson of New York University), and the authors' reply.

"Neither the existence nor the size of race differences in IQ are a matter of dispute, only their cause," write the authors. The Black-White difference has been found consistently from the time of the massive World War I Army testing of 90 years ago to a massive study of over 6 million corporate, military, and higher-education test-takers in 2001. - News-Medical

So I must ask "The People": which is it?

A, B or both?

The images come courtesy of the Ocean Explorer team, an experienced group of Swedish salvagers that already raised an impressive collection of rare and very expensive champagne from the watery depths.

Expedition leader Peter Lindberg notes that the mystery object is 60 meters across. Lines in the ocean floor next to it almost look like a skidded landing area.

Chances are that the discovery has a much less titillating explanation than coming from another planet. It could be a sunken vessel or a flooded archeological site. There will be no answers until the team goes in for a closer look. - CNET

The genius of tradition

25 01 12 - 21:43

Because we are afraid of evolution itself, which changes us as we are, we like to think it's over and we've moved on to the quest for Utopia through politically correct behavior.

This requires we write off the past as ignorant, stupid and wrong, and to make fun of tradition as a pointless and hateful exercise.

Then again, as time passes and our liberal/democratic/consumerist/technological/capitalist/socialist methods fail, we're starting to see the wisdom of tradition.

In cultures that permit men to take multiple wives, the intra-sexual competition that occurs causes greater levels of crime, violence, poverty and gender inequality than in societies that institutionalize and practice monogamous marriage.

"The emergence of monogamous marriage is also puzzling for some as the very people who most benefit from polygyny – wealthy, powerful men – were best positioned to reject it," says Henrich, lead author of the study that is published today in the journal Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society. "Our findings suggest that that institutionalized monogamous marriage provides greater net benefits for society at large by reducing social problems that are inherent in polygynous societies."

Considered the most comprehensive study of polygamy and the institution of marriage, the study finds significantly higher levels rape, kidnapping, murder, assault, robbery and fraud in polygynous cultures. According to Henrich and his research team, which included Profs. Robert Boyd (UCLA) and Peter Richerson (UC Davis), these crimes are caused primarily by pools of unmarried men, which result when other men take multiple wives. - PhysOrg

What, how could that be? It's like we're denying free will.

Your genes could be a strong predictor of whether you stray into a life of crime, according to a research paper co-written by UT Dallas criminologist Dr. J.C. Barnes.

The study focused on whether genes are likely to cause a person to become a life-course persistent offender, which is characterized by antisocial behavior during childhood that can later progress to violent or serious criminal acts later in life.

The framework for the research was based on the developmental taxonomy of anti-social behavior, a theory derived by Dr. Terri Moffitt, who identified three groups, or pathways, found in the population: life-course persistent offenders, adolescent-limited offenders and abstainers. Moffitt suggested that environmental, biological and, perhaps, genetic factors could cause a person to fall into one of the paths. - Science Daily

Oh wait. So this whole utilitarian, liberal-democratic, quasi-Romantic notion of free will and choice is bogus? We're just piles of nerves, acting out our genes? -- well, it's not quite that bad. But neither do we have absolute choice.

Modernity has drifted away from tradition for the selfish motivations of our worst people. End the drift -- turn back toward sanity.

What comes after the empty liberal symbols evaporate?

17 01 12 - 14:35

After trying to fit into this world it became clear to me, such a task was impossible. So I became a Libertarian, thinking that would be my way to explaining my disillusion with this modern world but even that was a failure.

After months of research I was slowly becoming a Conservative, enjoying the works of Disraeli, Burke, and Churchill. Yet while that seemed more comfortable to me when I finally stumbled upon the true hard – liners, the ones modern history conveniently forgot about, this was my great awakening.

Liberalism, even in a Conservative form, was a disease crippling Western civilization. It all leads back to the same source of envy from the mercantile class directed against the
aristocrats, nobles, and royalty because they rejected their right to govern and justified their hatred to the masses in the name of liberty.

Of course the peasants fell for this; they were promised that their voice will be the one that governs society. All wealth beyond your wildest dreams is awaiting you but first you must turn your back to family, community, God, and the principles of the past. In turn you become your own God, but conveniently subservient to a class of usurers, exploiters, and spiritually degraded sophists. We shall have a Heaven on Earth, this they told us was accomplishable and all horrifying acts in its name were justifiable actions.

Those are not views I subscribe to. The reality may be harsher but it should be accepted as such. Loyalty is the greatest principle one can hold and envy is one of the worst. The specter of the Left is coming; it will march out of the rubble that these people have laid our Western homelands to. It will be one which embraces racial and ethnic pride, loyalty to family and place, reverence to your God and ancestors, and shall break the clock of ‘liberty, egality, fraternity’ once and for all. - sllvnbranden

Leftism is a parasite that makes people insane

11 01 12 - 15:23

How do nice people end up psychotic weirdos?

[L]eftism fills many of its adherents with contempt and hatred. It takes a person of great character and self-control to continually imbibe and mouth the mantras of the left -- that everyone on the right is sexist, intolerant, xenophobic, homophobic, islamophobic, racist and bigoted -- and not become a meaner human being. If I believed just about everyone with left-wing views was despicable, I would be meaner, too.

In a previous column, I wrote about Thomas Friedman making one of the classic anti-Semitic libels when he wrote that the reason the Senate and the House gave Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu standing ovations was because "that ovation was bought and paid for by the Israel lobby."

How does a Jew write an anti-Semitic libel? Because he's on the left.

That was the reason Rep. Andre Carson said that members of Congress who support the Tea Party want to see blacks "hanging on a tree." Because he's on the left.

Leftists' meanness toward those with whom they differ has no echo on the normative right. Those on the left need to do some soul-searching. Because as long as they continue to believe that people on the right are not merely wrong but vile, they will get increasingly mean. The problem for the left, however, is that the moment it stops painting the right as vile, it has to argue the issues. - Dennis Prager

For social prestige, they imbibe the Kool-Aid. It forces them to see the world in binary terms.

From there, insanity reigns.

Soon, wars for democracy follow -- and bitter hatred toward not just the enemy, but anyone who does not surrender in advance.

Remember, leftists murdered a tenth of France at the guillotine.

Vote leftist for more of the same.

WARNING: Morons, displaced from their favorite morons-pretending-to-be-geniuses Dunning-Kruger vortex Reddit, will be flooding your favorite sites on January 18.

One of the latest acts of protest against the Stop Online Piracy Act is a planned blackout by social website reddit on January 18.

Reddit admins announced the plan in a blog post on Tuesday. The post acknowledged the activism by redditors in the fight against “powerful forces trying to censor the Internet.” However, the admins explained that it was time for the next stage of the fight, and they’ve decided they will be blacking out reddit on January 18. The blackout will last all day from 8am to 8pm Eastern Standard Time. - Yahoo!

How Facebook can stop you from ever having a job again

11 01 12 - 09:38

What do you do when you have controversial political opinions, and having your real name identified with them makes you a pariah?

As many people will be aware, Metal Archives has recently had an overhaul. This has included a new "members" section, which features information on past and present participants from bands/projects. This information not only supplies full names next to pseudonyms, it provides dates of birth, cities of residence etc where available.

Upon contacting Metal Archives, I was told that this information could only be removed if there was proof I lived in a country where such information being leaked could be detrimental towards myself (ie, a Damaar kind of situation). I argued the fact that some people's public associations with their bands could affect their employability to which I was simply told that if this information was put into the public domain, then it was fair game for them to print it. This insinuates to me that the only solution is that if any musicians want to operate anonymously, the use of sites such as facebook must be ruled out. I myself use facebook privately to keep in touch with foreign, and out of town friends, I was always careful with what I posted on there and kept personal information to an absolute minimum. This said, I obviously slipped by accepting a few "fanboy" adds, which is the only place where this information has slipped. - NWN

Third-party sites like Metal-Archives will not agree to change this information because their business is involved in having such information, and it was out there on the web and so they took advantage of it. however, this damages the musicians, who need to be able to express a spectrum of dangerous ideas (from extreme environmentalism and communism to ethnic nationalism) without retaliation against their real-world personae. After all, "economic censorship" is how this world keeps unpleasant but possibly valid ideas out of public discourse.

Work less

10 01 12 - 08:09

A good idea:

A thinktank, the New Economics Foundation (NEF), which has organised the event with the Centre for Analysis of Social Exclusion at the London School of Economics, argues that if everyone worked fewer hours – say, 20 or so a week – there would be more jobs to go round, employees could spend more time with their families and energy-hungry excess consumption would be curbed. Anna Coote, of NEF, said: "There's a great disequilibrium between people who have got too much paid work, and those who have got too little or none." - The Guardian

Unfortunately, they're arguing all the wrong reasons. Their idea above is basically wealth redistribution through limited working hours and universal employment. This means making sure every incompetent has a job, dumbing down the work market further.

I have a better idea: get the incompetents out of the work force.

We can continue paying them, if you like. It will actually cost less that way, as we will no longer be subsidizing their incompetent performance on the job. Put them on welfare, make jobs more intellectually and physically rigorous, and put only our best people in those jobs.

Then cut the vote to anyone without a job.

A solid position on copyright law

09 01 12 - 19:13

Is a TV set or Microwave oven that much different than a song or a book?

The basic premise that a work in digital form can be replicated without depleting the inventory of the author is simply mistaking the the form for the function. The form may be bits and bytes. The function is someone's work product. Unless he proposes putting all authors and on the public teat, I am at a loss to see how anyone can keep writing books any more than I can see why anyone would stock more microwave's in a store from which anyone take anything they wanted. - Slashdot

The great liberal herd wants to believe that copyright laws are bad and we should be able to copy whatever we want. Then comes the problem: how do we fund the production of software, music, movies, etc. if they are given away freely?

Try making a clone of someone else's microwave design. You'll get sued, because that other person's time, money, energy and emotional investment went into that product design and the research and testing behind it.

I will submit there is an exception for "tape trading" style copying of musical works, and for the replication of rare books, movies, music and software so that it does not become inaccessible when it is no longer sold.

Kill fluffy

08 01 12 - 10:29

It's good to remember that while nothing is exactly as it appears, appearances can be both deceptive and real.

In a forest we see this most clearly.

For example, predators may try to eat you. Other creatures may be defensive and bite if approached. You can work around this, to some degree, but it's important to remember that their nature is a result of the need for them to interact with their environment.

However, appearances can also be deceptive. Snakes are not evil, nor are predators. They may be hungry or they may bite when threatened, but they're not looking to hurt you. If you respect their role as those which must eat and not be eaten, they will understand you and you will pass them by without a problem.

In the same way, fluffy creatures may be cute but parasitic. Take for example the common squirrel.

Squirrels are plentiful - overly so in some regions. Buddy initially began dispatching the squirrels because they were savaging the garden he'd so carefully planted. Their numbers were seemingly undiminished.

"Awwwwww!" you might coo. "But they're so adorable and sweet and and how could you be so very cruel as to eat the precious Disney fluffy-wuffy?"

Yup – they're all just darling until the day when you walk into your kitchen to find that one has gnawed through your window screen to make himself a snack of your tortillas. He's just there, lounging about on your table all bushy-tailed and cavalier until he spots you...and snarls...and then everything is a blur of tortillas and mange and horror.

There are plenty of squirrels in the world. You can stand to eat a few. - "Give Squirrel a whirl," CNN, May 20, 2011

Whatever your religious beliefs, they must include the certainty of death and even more, the necessity of death and predation. This is part of the grand design. Where do the souls of squirrels go, after death? (Personally, I like the idea that grifters, manipulators and shysters are re-incarnated as squirrels.)

And further, how is it that such cute and furry things can capture our hearts, and also be destructive? And yet also tasty? Do we let our emotions get in the way of killing them and eating them, or do we shrug and figure that the order of nature is divine and therefore not subject to alteration?

Even more, what's the best way to cook a squirrel?

The Emperor has no new clothes

06 01 12 - 06:56

Parsell, a Maine native who is in his late 20s, recently completed a master's degree at Boston College. He worked previously for the Virginia-based Leadership Institute, which trains conservative activists.

On Tuesday, an anonymous website called The State of Maine posted a story, "The Maine Heritage Policy Center Hires a Reporter Who Advocates White Supremacy."

The story posted links to comments that Parsell made on PolicyMic, a crowd-sourced news and discussion forum. In one of the comments, Parsell wrote that "cultural diversity combines with our increasing racial and ethnic diversity to degrade society."

Parsell linked to a video clip of Jared Taylor, a white nationalist, who says that diversity creates a "crazy mish-mash" that leads to social conflict and a dim future for white people.

The video is promoted by the National Policy Institute, which on its website portrays itself as a defender of the nation's white majority against policies that favor nonwhite immigrants and minorities. - The Press Herald

It's typical of denialism.

The Emperor has no new clothes; he's naked. People do not want to admit this and lose ground in the current power structure, so they fall all over each other in order to make strong statements denying the obvious.

Finally, one person accidentally speaks the truth in a way that reaches enough others to make it acceptable to talk about it.

The dam breaks.

We're witnessing it happening now. This guy, who was summarily fired, is just a late-battle casualty.

For him right now, the challenge is to not turn bitter and go extremist. A number of white nationalists who endorse rather extreme platforms are on the rebound from similar experiences.

The high cost of liberalism

06 01 12 - 06:51

Ever since criminology became a discipline, scholars have found that criminals are overwhelmingly drawn from working-class and lower-class neighborhoods—Fishtown. But in 1960, crime was low and the existing differences between Belmont and Fishtown did not impinge on daily life. The real Fishtown in Philadelphia, for example, was an extremely safe place to live in the 1950s (as we know both from a contemporaneous sociological study of the real Fishtown and the living memory of those who grew up in Fishtown in those years). Doors were routinely left unlocked. Children were allowed to play unwatched by their own parents, who knew that neighbors were keeping an eye on them. In the rare instances when a crime did occur, the people of Fishtown knew where to look for the offenders, and often dealt with them without bothering to call the cops.

The surge in crime that began in the mid-1960s and continued through the 1980s left Belmont almost untouched and ravaged Fishtown. From 1960–95, the violent crime rate in Fishtown more than sextupled. When we can first break out imprisonment rates in 1974 (after crime had already been increasing for a decade), there were 215 imprisoned Fishtowners for every 100,000 persons ages 18–65. By the time of the most recent survey of prison inmates in 2004, that number had grown to 965. The comparable figures for Belmont were infinitesimal and flat (13 in 1974, 27 in 2004). Furthermore, the reductions in crime since the mid-1990s that have benefited the nation as a whole have been smaller in Fishtown, leaving Fishtown today with a violent crime rate that is still 4.7 times the 1960 rate. - Charles Murray

The whole essay is worth reading.

What happened in the mid-1960s that allowed crime to rise?

I don't think it's a single factor, but a single attitudinal change.

We got rid of the one right way of doing things, a descendant of nature.

We replaced it with pandering to the individual.

Not surprisingly, many then act on the notions unleashed in their violent little minds.

Hope and Bitterness

04 01 12 - 21:06

Unlike any other web site in the universe, ANUS drives people into flaming rages.

They try to hide this fact behind a world-weary sense of criticism, an "enlightened" tisk-tisking over how immature we are, or even pretended boredom coupled with a desire to "take these egomaniacs down a notch."

There's only one problem... there have been many of them, and despite all of the above excuses, they have exhibited the same behavior: a pathological and impotent rage that we exist, and a desire to pursue us (personally) with insults, copypasta dogma, repeated plaintive excuses, and so on.

We drive them mad because we admit it all. We admit the emptiness of life, the stupidity of most people, the horror that lies within. We are nihilists and death metal maniacs. And yet we believe in live. We have hope, not of someone else saving our asses, but that with a little logic, hard work and gumption, we can make just about anything turn out just great. And that life is worth living and should be a joyful, brilliant, celebrated and excellent experience.

That viewpoint alone brings out the smouldering bitterness. From the dark corners of the world where they lurk forgot, confined in some career and family life that no matter how "good" on the surface does not meet their needs, with their own egos unfulfilled and singed by that same dark envy, they come to seek us out. They mean to do harm, with their words. They call us stupid, ignorant, whatever. The message doesn't matter; the medium is the message, and the medium is that they're here and making up whatever excuses they feel they need in order to keep attacking us.

Because we drive them mad.

We drive them mad because we don't accept their negative view of the world, their lie-back-and-enjoy-it fatalism, or their rage that someone somewhere might be having a good time despite knowing all the things they fear.

We will always drive them mad, and the best part is that we don't intend to. Our goal is not to have enemies but to make clarity of thoughts. For us, it is never personal. For our detractors, we are a personal insult to them... even though we don't care about them and are most likely oblivious to their existence.

Ask yourselves:

If you believe in free thought, why is it that our thoughts upset you so much you make it a personal crusade to repeat the same tired arguments wherever you can?

If you believe we are so obviously wrong, why the evangelical missions here?

If you believe you're above it all, why do you lash out uncontrollably when we appear?

You're used to nice easy strawmen. Us-team versus Them-team. And then there's this troubling group of nihilists. They just breeze past it all. They don't play your game and join you in futile bitterness.

That must really piss you off.

...not my problem.

N.B.: nothing posted on this site necessarily constitutes advocacy or condemnation. It's food for thought. You're mature enough to handle it? Numen Books

02 01 12 - 08:39

Numen Books takes it name from the Latin word Numen, meaning 'an influence perceptible by mind but not by senses' which is closely linked to the metaphysical concept of mana or power being inherent and derived from a point beyond that of the mundane world.

We are an independent book publisher who has been in the publishing industry for five years under the name Primordial Traditions. Following the New Zealand earthquakes in 2010-2011, we relocated to Australia and changed our name to Numen Books in order to reflect our growing range of publications.

The idea of the Primordial Tradition evolved out of the concept known as philosophia perennis, or perennial philosophy, which in itself is a development from the prisca theologia of the Middle Ages. Both the idea of the Primordial Tradition and the philosophia perennis attempt to establish common factors amongst different traditions, with the goal of producing a superior gnosis or level of wisdom than that which would have been obtained by the study of a single religion. This is remarkably similar to the mode of study used in comparative mythology and the study of the history of religions. In this sense, the term Primordial Tradition is utilized to describe a system of spiritual thought and metaphysical truths that overarches all the other religions and esoteric traditions of humanity.

The concept of the Primordial Tradition was well received by both practitioners and the academic community, and its development was actively endorsed by the International Conference of Religions in Chicago, 1893. Outside of the academic community, the idea of the Primordial Tradition received an even better reception, and was advocated by the Traditionalist school – notably Rene Guénon, Julius Evola, and Alain Daniélou. Other figures/works of note to the Primordial Tradition are: Mircea Eliade, Ananda Coomaraswamy, Carl Kerenyi, Emil Cioran, Georges Dumezil, Huston Smith, Heinrich Zimmer, Gottfried Leibniz, Aldous Huxley, Frithjof Schuon, Plato, Nicolás Gómez Dávila, Ananda Coomaraswamy - also the Vedas, Sagas, Greek and Roman Epics, mythology, folklore, and the manifestations of the ideas of traditions in the works of such authors as Friedrich Nietzsche and Karl Jung. As such it portrays an underlying universal principle in the application of religion and holds that there are common precepts that exist in the substrata of all religions. These universal truths are then reshaped by cultural and historical events to take their own distinct life and vitality. The term perennial philosophy has also been employed as a translation of the Hindu concept of Sanatana Dharma or the Eternal Tradition.

Our publications are expanding and now include supernatural/horror fiction, as well as the areas in which we already boast an existing reputation.
