Let us pursue our delusions

31 10 10 - 05:17

If there is a God, he is a troll -- or at least, His news agencies are:

A Brazilian court ruled this week that McDonald's must pay a former franchise manager $17,500 because he gained 65 pounds while working there for a dozen years.

The 32-year-old man said he felt forced to sample the food each day to ensure quality standards remained high, because McDonald's hired "mystery clients" to randomly visit restaurants and report on the food, service and cleanliness.

The man also said the company offered free lunches to employees, adding to his caloric intake while on the job. - AP

OH HAI, Mr. Rich First World Company. Here in the third world, we get vast popularity points for portraying victimhood. That is, after all, how we got to third world status. Much like your urban poor, we are certain we are oppressed and that it's someone else's fault if things go wrong for us. So now here's a lawsuit and look, our judge wants to get re-elected or maybe even move up as a popular politician. So the rabble surges, he makes a grand pronouncement -- it's just about fucking Science now -- and off we go.

Ten months from now, when the wooden heads of the crowd have forgotten, this will be overturned on appeal. Each Brazilian will pay an additional $0.007 for the privilege of having this trial and having it be in the news, and McDonald's will donate $25,000 to a Brazilian home for lost children which will spend it on medications, 90% of which will promptly be stolen. World keeps turnin'

Rubin is at the center of a deepening rift between the world's two biggest Jewish communities — the American and Israeli. Religious life in Israel is dominated by the strict ultra-Orthodox establishment, which has growing political power and has become increasingly resistant to any inroads by the more liberal movements that predominate among American Jews.

Many Americans — whose faith is seen by the ultra-Orthodox as blurred by intermarriage and fading adherence to tradition — are feeling rejected and unwelcome. - AP

Americans would like to believe that because we fought all our wars for "freedom," people anywhere on earth should welcome us with open arms no matter how neurotic, flaky, schizoid and dumbed down we are. To modern Americans, religion is a box on the census and something you participate in as convenient; to Israelis, who are surrounded by their enemies, religion is the cornerstone of a civilization that's both of a more ancient and future type: the organized civilization.

In this style of existence, there is no American-style buffet-style pluralism where you pick whatever is convenient. There's a right way of doing things, with multiple interpretations, but they need to be realistic ones. And there's a united fight for survival in which your heritage, customs, language and culture are your uniform.

When Hillary Rubin immigrated from the U.S. to Israel, the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors and descendant of a famed Zionist visionary felt that she had finally arrived in her true home.

But now that religious authorities are questioning the 29-year-old Michigan native's Jewish pedigree and refusing to recognize her marriage, she's having second thoughts.

Some American from the outer Michigan suburbs, steeped in 29 years of our advertising that tries to be "the nice guy" to everyone and everything, has no idea what struggle is. She has no idea what ethnic conflict is. While Israel might be a paradise, entering paradise might require that she leave behind her preconceptions -- preconceptions made in a hell where there is no value, truth is not widely recognized so is irrelevant, and a backward lifestyle where you pick what's convenient and do it, instead of picking what's right and forcing it to become convenient.

Israel is at the forefront of Samuel Huntington's "Clash of Civilizations," which appalled liberals, but pointed out that integrated societies -- where heritage, culture, language, customs and values are if not uniform/monocultural at least very closely aligned, not a melting pot at all -- are our future. During the drunken years of industrial wealth, we let the proles run wild with their dream that everyone is basically the same. The reality of the situation is (of course) more complex, and groups that formed evolutionarily are realizing that they're a tiny minority, and just about everyone else wants to invade, take their stuff, kill their men and rape their women.

Jews, North Asians, and Western Europeans are all in this same boat.

But we live in this fantasy world where everyone's just the same, and with our zippy internal combustion engines, we'll make everything right according to our neurotic armchair view of the world:

Hundreds of protesters who blame U.N. peacekeepers from Nepal for Haiti's widening cholera epidemic marched on a rural military base Friday to demand the soldiers leave the country.

...

Experts say the disease was likely imported. Until this month there had not been a diagnosed case of cholera in Haiti as far back as records go in the mid-20th Century, said Claire-Lise Chaignat, head of the global task force on cholera control at the World Health Organization. The disease is pandemic in parts of Africa and Asia.

...

Cholera is endemic in Nepal and the country suffered outbreaks this summer. The current troop contingent arrived in shifts starting Oct. 9, after the outbreak in their home country and shortly before the disease broke out in Haiti. Cases have been concentrated down river along the Artibonite. - AP

Score one for the UN. We'll all be kumbaya together, or go down with high fevers and watery diarrhea, at least. Delusion breeds real-world consequences, but no one at the UN was thinking of that. They're thinking instead about how Super Size Jesus Buddha they all are for selflessly giving, helping, the poor inky people who can't build a house that withstands an earthquake and seem to prefer their food flavored with feces. That makes them perfect pity targets, and then we get pity target points for helping them, which helps us get laid in UN-approved soulless modern plastic discotheques (I assume the UN only likes entertainment from that lovely idealistic promiscuous 1970s era).

And finally, for your daily LOL, is Barack Obama doing what he said George Bush did -- using a convenient terror attack to rally the troops:

President Barack Obama's counterterrorism adviser says U.S. officials "have to presume" there might be more potential mail bombs like the ones that were pulled off planes in England and the United Arab Emirates on Friday.

Al-Qaeda must be hiring potheads to come up with these new schemes, and if anyone's too stoned to join al-Qaeda, there's always white house PR.

America's slide into Brazil/Iraq II, continued

28 10 10 - 06:29

Interesting:

GREER, S.C. - When German automaker BMW put out the call recently to hire a thousand factory workers here, the people who responded reflected the upheaval occurring in the U.S. economy.

But they're all in the factory now making $15 an hour - about half of what the typical German autoworker makes.

The trade debate in the United States usually focuses on the jobs lost to factories in the developing world. But the recession has forced countless skilled workers in this country to consider jobs they would have rejected in the past. They now offer foreign manufacturers a resource that was far less common just a few years ago: cheaper wages for better talent. - WP

Notice this isn't on "The Coasts," meaning New England, San Francisco Bay Area or L.A. -- it's in an area that economically and demographically looks more like the midwest. As the USA, which stupidly inflated its currency in the mid to late 1990s with the "dot com" boom that produced a falsely overvalued wealth assessment, now struggles to absorb the losses created by all that fake wealth, others are circling and ready to feed.

Soon we will join other third world nations -- Brazil, Iraq, Mexico, Russia, France -- in having an elite few rule over an unruly gray mob who hate life and hate anyone who has more than they do, yet can't stay sober/focused long enough to complete simple tasks. Let's take bets: how long until American municipalities start switching to open sewers to "save money"?

I don't think the current recession is that big of a deal. It's one of many stopping points on the way down. Since 1945, the USA has continually hyped the value of its currency while taking on increasingly liberal political programs that destroyed the basis of that currency, resulting in a spiral into third-world status. You'd think they'd learn from history, but I guess the voters don't know history, and surely they don't care.

What's the difference between "liberals" and "conservatives"?

27 10 10 - 14:50

A few offer opinions:

Conservatives, being more oriented toward dominance, tend to acquire a larger group of friends and associates than liberals. They are more sensitive to potential threats because there are more people in their orbit, and thus the danger of their being hurt by a duplicitous person is greater. - MM

Interesting. And then there's the nature-over-nurture explanation:

By matching genetic information with maps of the subjects' social networks, the researchers were able to show that people with a specific variant of the DRD4 gene were more likely to be liberal as adults, but only if they had an active social life in adolescence.

Dopamine is a neurotransmitter affecting brain processes that control movement, emotional response, and ability to experience pleasure and pain. Previous research has identified a connection between a variant of this gene and novelty-seeking behavior, and this behavior has previously been associated with personality traits related to political liberalism. - MD

The truth's somewhere in the middle:

  • Conservatives love our world as it is and want to enhance its existing nature. They observe first, and plan their reaction second.

  • Liberals dislike and distrust the world, and assume it has a "bad" or negative existing nature. They react to this emotion first, before observing their world as it is.

A a nihilist and/or a scientist, I could never support liberalism. I like the scientific method and logic too much, meaning that if I see repeated patterns in my world, I discern their causes and thus, the reasons they have persisted. Liberalism is an emotional tantrum against the world and a refusal to see why it functions as it does.

Novelty-seeking by its very nature is a hopeless trait. If you like life, you find good solid things you enjoy -- learning, family, self-improvement, purpose -- but if you don't like life, you look for things to "compensate" or make you feel better about being condemned to this evil place.

I think if we could devise an experiment to see the truth of the situation, we'd find that conservatives are more in touch with what death means than liberals. To liberals, it's an abstraction. To conservatives, it's a certainty -- and thus taking life seriously, and finding bread-and-potatoes reasons to be alive instead of desserts to compensate us for having to eat that awful liver, is most important.

Do you eat dessert first? Lib or con? Let 'em rip in the comments < fwap >.

Third World USA redux

25 10 10 - 15:42

This place keeps getting more and more comical. I don't think we can blame this on any particular group, just on our decline as a whole -- we've gotten lazy and unwilling to strive for anything:

Nearly one-tenth of sexually active New York City high school students say they have had at least one same-sex partner, and teens who say they've had sexual contact with both sexes report higher-than-average rates of dating violence, forced sex and risky sexual behavior, a new study says.

...

Students also were asked whether they considered themselves straight, gay or lesbian, bisexual, or "not sure." Of the teens with at least one same-sex partner, 38.9 percent answered "heterosexual or straight."

...

The study found that teens who reported partners of both sexes also reported higher-than-average rates of risky sexual practices, such as not using a condom during intercourse, as well as higher rates of partner violence and forced sex.

...

"Young people who are exhibiting characteristics of depression and lower self-worth can indeed place themselves in more risky situations including risky sexual practices," he said. - AP

What an ode to disintegration!

People are miserable, casting about for meaning, and they can find it by rutting like monkeys -- indiscriminately. If sheep were widely available in NYC, the rates of ewe molestation would be off the charts (by both sexes, to stay open-minded).

And this isn't some blown-out failed city like San Bernardino (sorry) or Detroit (sorry), but probably our most impressive city, New York. Wouldn't it be odd if our most prosperous places were more corrupt than our out-of-the-way places? Bet it's true, with a reducing curve when you approach the really forgotten wastelands like abandoned company towns.

More from the "here we go into the toilet" file:

New York City's bedbugs have climbed out of bed and marched into landmarks like the Empire State Building, Bloomingdale's and Lincoln Center, causing fresh anxiety among tourists who are canceling Big Apple vacations planned for the height of the holiday season.

...

Sightings of the rust-colored bugs, about the size of an apple seed, have surged in New York and around the nation in recent years. Experts have theorized that an increase in global travel and the banning of certain pesticides may be partly responsible for their spread.

...

"It's gone up incredibly. We were completely blindsided by this," said Jody L. Gangloff-Kaufmann, urban entomologist in the integrated pest management program at Cornell University. "And for years, nobody knew about it, so reservoir populations were formed here and there." - AP

Guess this is the future. Your sandwich comes in sanitary plastic wrap, so does your needle and your computer, but the rest of the world is gradually being invaded by nature as disorganization, filth and parasitism divide the human population and make them less attentive.

America was once a shining example of how to do things the right way, and we had a national mania about cleanliness. But now? Well, we're starting to look a lot like Brazil, Mexico, Iraq, Russia and other countries where social order has dissolved. The cities are filthy and public services impotent, while our politicians count tourist cash.

My bet is that tourists increasingly are going to visit more vital places, in regimes that aren't dying of their own excess.

Jumping into life, and the painful slap of reality

25 10 10 - 04:44

We stumble along, in a haze of media/friends/illusions, and then life slaps us in the face with a swinging dong:

During the years between the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 and the collapse of Lehman Brothers in 2008, globalisation created common interests between all the world’s major powers. A world that had once been divided between capitalist and communist systems – and between a small group of rich countries and a much larger group of underdeveloped nations – was now united by a single economic system. For a tantalising 20 years, globalisation seemed to promise rising living standards for all nations, and a more peaceful world.

The economic crash of 2008, however, has changed the logic of international relations. In a new economic situation, the win-win logic that allowed the major powers to embrace globalisation is now being replaced by a zero-sum logic, in which one country’s gain looks like another’s loss. Both as individuals and as a nation, Americans have begun to question whether the “new world order” that emerged after the cold war still favours the US. The rise of Asia is increasingly associated with job losses for ordinary Americans and with a challenge to American power from an increasingly confident China. - FT

Yes, because it was always an illusion. Wait, what? But it worked for twenty years!

Twenty years is a millisecond to history. If you decide on a policy, and put it into action, you'll see only the barest hint of its long term survivability after ten, twenty, fifty or a hundred years. Even three centuries later, the full consequences may not be apparent.

It's like building a house. If you cut corners, everything seems fine for a while and then, two decades later in a high windstorm, those corner-cuttings get put to the test. Except that for nations, the time gap is even bigger.

The idea of a zero-sum world has always been the default, because the following things are finite:

  • Land

  • Resources

  • Energy

  • Time

And I'll add another, as a footnote. Even if all of the above were made infinite by some Jehovanian magic, our lives would still not be infinite. Oh, well, let's pretend that is fixed. Now you're immortal. You can still only have one first time to do anything, and while you might want to keep shooting for better and better results, after a thousand years you will have exhausted most of the possibilities. So experience itself is finite...

But we'd rather indulge in the happy illusion that the present tense is eternity, that we are God-like intellects and not just smart mice, and that by just giving everything away and spreading out the wealth curve, we're making a better/progressive/moral society. This is old school early Christianity, formed by a rabble of disaffected Jews (not the prosperous Roman-affable Pharisees, but the dipsomaniacs and web designers) to crush those above it through guilt.

This illusion takes many forms -- in fact, it existed before Christianity or Judaism, and will invent itself anew in any civilization because it's an easily stumbled-into logic trap like confirmation bias, parallax distortion or even "this fart can't be as liquid as it fee -- uh oh." Life is full of these little pitfalls. From the same article:

A western Age of Optimism between 1991 and 2008 was underpinned by a set of ideas, which might be called liberal internationalism.

Yes, we know. Internationalism is the idea that we're all the same under our different skins, and those really are the only differences between people, except for rapists and bankers who are just bad.

It's the fond hope: by ceasing to struggle against life for something higher in life, we can all just chill out and it'll all turn out OK. Evolution runs contrary to this statement, which is the worst form of clueless people adapting socially polite statements into unrealistic policy.

The end result of such delusion is a society of plastic, horrible, faithless people:

Relationship and life coach Donna Barnes said bedbugs are a creepy aspect to dating right now.

She advises not telling people on the first date you have bedbugs. She says that when the relationship is escalating, it's a good idea to inform the other person if you are bringing him or her into areas of potential exposure, Barnes said.

...

Handwerker, who was interviewed while out with friends at a bar, said "what an age we live in where people now are vetting you out to see if you have bedbugs first. He didn't even ask me if I had any diseases. He doesn't want to be eaten by bedbugs."

...

A man at the bar confirmed this, admitting "come back to my place" would be his response to an attractive woman with bedbugs.

...

One woman said, "I think there's enough excuses not to date someone in New York. ... Bedbugs doesn't need to be added to it." - CNN

The entire article is chock-full of this kind of hilarity. Tell me, in a non-zero-sum world, do we let the bedbugs, mosquitoes, ticks, fleas and lawyers just bite us and hold on as long as they'd like?

Tweets from life itself

24 10 10 - 04:31

Brief rundown of the insanity: "freedom" means having no goal. Having no goal means not adapting to reality. A nihilist discards all nonsense, and realizes his or her only obligation is to reality. What works is what wins. Morality, herd guilt, passive coercion and the pleasant delusions of the human brain are irrelevant.

Of course, most of the world sees it the other way: our collective impressions are the most important, and these are what should dominate, because we're all here. That will never change, right?

“It is certainly the worst coral die-off we have seen since 1998. It may prove to be the worst such event known to science,” said Andrew Baird, a principal research fellow for James Cook University in Australia.

The coral bleaching extends from the Seychelles in the middle of the Indian Ocean to the Philippines in Southeast Asia and encompasses much of the Coral Triangle, an area scientists refer to as the “Amazon rainforest of the seas” or the most diverse marine ecosystem on Earth.

A mass of abnormally hot water which moved into the Indian Ocean several months ago is behind the bleaching, according to the ARC report. - CNN

Blaming global warming is a good career boost these days, and Mr. Baird knows this. The article is too sparse to tell us how this water got warm, so we assume it's global warming. If you're like me and believe humanity is slowly consuming its environment on many fronts, and that global warming is just a symbol, this article is gratifyingly amusing.

And we're finding out that interracial dating is retarded:

I always thought the men who date me do so because I am an open, good hearted person who is fun to be around. Now, I am starting to believe that it has nothing to do with my personality. It has nothing to do with my intellect. It has nothing to do with any characteristic that makes me who I am. Instead, it has to do with my race.

I fought against this idea for the longest time. I did not want to believe that the partners I have been with were buying into the “white is right” idea foisted upon them by this society. But, when I hear the same thing from a million different sources, I have to consider it. So, maybe I need to stop dating Black men. And since I am not attracted to white men physically, mentally, or emotionally, that means I would need to stop dating entirely.

I do not want to contribute to weakening the Black community or the Black family. - Blogger.com

Mature insights, there. You cannot escape race, or deny race, any more than you can deny any other attribute of a person's being. It is our dream that people are just souls, not physical bodies, and so we're all "equal" in value -- which means each of us is always guaranteed 100% to be accepted. But we're both bodies and souls, at the same time. We can't just deconstruct that relationship and wishing, make it so. Instead, we need to accept it. If you're in an interracial relationship, race is there in the room, with all of its politics and history and biological differences. If you're in a monoracial and mono-ethnic relationship, you face none of that. No surprise that more divorce pursues interracial unions.

From the clever-monkey-no-donut files:

In a recent study by Gothenburg University, published in Svenska Dagbladet, 22 percent of all Swedes want to abolish the monarchy, up from 15 percent six years ago. The Swedish writer Goran Hagg recently proposed in an interview with TV4 that the king should be elected in a public vote. - CNN

If you can't come out and say that you want to destroy the monarchy, just backdoor it. What do you call an elected king? A president. Why would you bother to keep using the term "king" for that person? To ensure the monarchy is destroyed.

Swedes, as some of the smarter people on earth, are easier to mislead -- smarter people will spend hours/years/centuries trying to analyze and find the meaning in bullshit, where the mundane mind will just assume it's bullshit because the mundane mind assumes everything is bullshit, and move on. So they terminate their royals, liberalize their society, congratulate themselves and then drink themselves into a stupor, wondering why with all this progress they are still miserable.

Liberals: unable to see consequences of their actions

23 10 10 - 10:09

Liberalism is what happens when the disenchanted get together. Life has failed them, or they've failed it, but either way, they feel like victims. So they agree that life is terrible, and something should be done that makes them feel included. In order to get their way, they make the ultimate fool's gamble: they demand the same "rights" for others, and demand that society first (a) consider everyone equal and (b) force them all to be equal, by hampering the strong and subsidizing the weak.

It's a simpleton's vision of peace and tranquility. One size fits all comes to the human species!

Of course, there's a problem with this vision. Equality of all people is an effect, or the result of an action, not an action you can take directly. So much of our modern activities involve acting directly, e.g. pouring gasoline on logs if they must burn, or installing an air conditioner if it's too hot outside. We're no longer familiar with the steps required to get to that point. So when our people want equality, they demand government do it directly, which is of course a path to failure because it's not the default order of humanity. It's like pounding square pegs in round holes every day to insist we have it.

But liberals don't exist until you have an advanced society. Only then are people rich enough, and lazy enough, to consider social banter a substitute for real action. It's like "hey, if I convince these idiots to do what I say, it'll happen because enough people depend on it happening." This is why as soon as liberalism emerges citizens get accustomed to having corrupt and insane leaders. You sometimes have insane kings; in democracy, the insanity of your leaders is a given. In addition, you cultivate a populace who cannot think clearly over the course of time. They can pick the better product off a shelf, or determine which political outcome is more "moral," but figure out how to make it happen -- there, you get only confusion.

This is why liberals even today have trouble reasoning through the consequences of their actions:

After all, "edgy" magazine spreads such as the Glee fiasco have become a rite of passage for young women in the entertainment world who want to make a splash. Agron and Michelle were following the same cookie-cutter trajectory that stars like Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears have taken: baring midriffs and pouting at the cameras to signal sophistication and availability.

As a result of this saturated media environment, a massive coalition of women’s groups are launching a movement called SPARK, to “take sexy back” and encourage young women to critique and protest the way they are portrayed in the media and marketed to by advertisers. SPARK (“Sexualization protest: action, resistance, knowledge”) held its kickoff summit on Friday at Hunter College in New York. A slew of big names riled up the crowd of women young and old, including actress Geena Davis, sex educator Amber Madison, and trailblazing filmmaker and writer Jean Kilbourne. Representatives from dozens of prominent women’s organizations organized and attended the event, as did a large contingent of teenage girls. A livestream and chat broadcast speeches to viewers around the country. - Dubious News Source

Girls, girls... girls -- what were you thinking?

If you "liberate" something, you've made it a commodity. You can no longer regulate it. It's on the market. And liberating it, by the nature of liberation, means that everyone is going to oppose any restrictions or you trying to shape what's a "correct" direction. It's free now, baby! Free love! Free sex! And that means that men are going to take all they can get, manipulate the hell out of you, and then kick you to the curb.

Why shouldn't they?

Instead of getting a partner for life, they get a jaded slut who is going to confuse them with the other 168 dicks that have penetrated her in her life. Even more, she's used to using sex as a commodity to sell herself, both as work and in her personal life. So you now have not only a jaded slut, but a cynical manipulator in your life! No wonder men cast it aside when they're no longer interested. There's no incentive for them to keep her around, and they already know she's as faithless as a mosquito, so turnabout's fair play.

Ain't that so, ladies?

Well, you keep trying:

SPARK is not opposed to girls being sexual or having sex. In fact, Women’s Media Center’s Jamia Wilson had the audience repeat the mantra “we are not anti-sex” several times during her early-morning speech. Instead, the message is about rejecting a standardized, commercialized and denigrating take on what girls ought to do to be sexy: lose weight, purchase stilettos, or make out with other girls for male amusement, for instance. “Sex and and sexuality are an important and vital part of life,” Wilson said. “Sexy is not just a look, but a feeling.”

That's one for the Durrrrrr files right there. Sexy is a feeling? Sexy is a way of selling yourself. You're trading a promised reward for, well, something. It's not like marriage: a partnership. It's a direct swap, a transaction. This is what liberated means. You have detached sex from any other meaning or custom. That means people are going to use it just like they use any other ability you have. "Yeah, I can paint a wall. $50." What's different in selling you their mouths, vaginas or anuses? Or doing it on a billboard, or on a TV show?

Liberation means it can be for sale.

They keep telling me Geena Davis is smart, but after she signed on for this trainwreck, I wonder.

Girls, girls -- what are you going to do? Are you going to set up a government council for the Right Kind of Sexy, and ban advertisements? Great, you'll have to go full Soviet on us, because sex has always been used to sell. Or are you going to continue with pathetic tiny foundations like SPARK that few hear and fewer care?

I guess you've already written off the smart big people option which is to have social roles, customs and a sense of social darwinism. Under a social darwinist system, you don't slut around because you know that reduces your value and makes you only suitable for being someone's blown-out old hag concubine (which is effectively what happens now, anyway, once a woman hits 35 and she's no longer fun in that "I want to ejaculate in her and then forget her name" kind of way that makes her the perfect commodity).

But you'd probably view that as oppression. So instead you're out there, rather guiltily trying to tame the beast you unleashed on all of us with sexual "freedom" that translates into universal prostitution. Can't slam the barn door hard enough as you see the horse crest a hill in the distance. Like most liberals, you're really good with slogans and are always shocked by the "unintended" consequences of your actions.

The big lie versus the obvious need

20 10 10 - 07:42

From our favorite babbling brook, the mainstream news:

In Germany, as in other developed countries, an aging population requires immigrants for economic survival. - CSM

So let me get this straight:

The best way to save the planet is to make sure our lifestyles are sustainable. This means fewer people and less wealth.

But,

We're supposed to import more people, who want our opulent lifestyles, to replace those who are departing.

Does anyone else see a LOL moment in this one?

The roots of false altruism

19 10 10 - 14:17

From the Our-Glorious-Simian-Heritage dept:

Chimpanzees and bonobos will voluntarily open a door to offer a companion access to food, even if they lose part of it in the process. And capuchin monkeys are prepared to seek rewards for others, such as when we place two of them side by side, while one of them barters with us with differently colored tokens. One token is “selfish,” and the other “prosocial.” If the bartering monkey selects the selfish token, it receives a small piece of apple for returning it, but its partner gets nothing. The prosocial token, on the other hand, rewards both monkeys. Most monkeys develop an overwhelming preference for the prosocial token, which preference is not due to fear of repercussions, because dominant monkeys (who have least to fear) are the most generous. - NYT

Monkeys will be "altruistic" because they expect the return treatment from those they benefit.

So we all form a mob, give everything to each other, and then figure we can demand whatever we want.

Monkeys.

Middle class idiots

18 10 10 - 20:54

Josef H asks:

can you elaborate further on why the middle class is essentially made out of idiots?

I think what I said was "middle class idiot babies," which implies that some of the middle classes are idiots, but I'll bite on this one: many of our middle classes are idiots. Not as idiotic as our poor, or our useless socialites, but still, idiots. This is because the American and European dream has been one of prole conquest: I, the former serf whose previous highest function was shoveling shit into sandwich bags, can join the dream by getting an education and working hard!

It used to be that middle class meant you had to have some brains. Now you just need to leave your parents' hovel, take out an assload of student loans, and get yourself some kind of degree/certification, then go to a job and not get fired. Not be good; just not get fired. Don't offend anyone. Don't screw up anything too badly. Be very sociable and keep people thinking you're harmless. Over time, they incrementally promote you. Betting on this, buy everything on credit. The ponzi scheme is that millions of sheep are following you, so that house you bought which is close to but not in the city will double in value and you can eventually retire, all without having any kind of functional brain.

Most jobs are glorified clerking, and politics of course, and most people are doofuses living on their credit cards (or in Europe, on state aid supplements) who have no idea what they're doing, but they're doing it every day, so we pay them and promote them. That is what proles think is a fair meritocracy. If you show up, you get money. Nevermind whether you're effective at anything; the rest of those people who have more than you do can subsidize your obese incompetent ass.

Not all middle class people are doofusians. Not all poor are, but it's very few who are not. I'm sure there's a smart socialite out there -- well, actually, if you're independently wealthy and do anything except go into hard academia to advance humanity's knowledge, you're probably useless mental cabbage. But the great majority of people now are idiots, mainly because by putting proles in charge, we allowed them to state a preference for tolerance of idiots over demanding competence -- and so now, we're awash in idiots.

Trolling the doofus modernist in its lair

17 10 10 - 20:17

Slate.com, one of the internet's largest repositories of "let's fix the world from our armchairs by hiring people to pound square pegs into round holes" doofus lower-tier college-"educated" peon modernists, is soliciting us for suggestions on how to reform the American classroom.

They've discovered that the classroom is basically similar to those a century and a half ago, and they're wondering why. Why God why? Why are spoons, books, shotguns and chairs still the same?

I mean, can't we add some fancy new-age faggotry and trick them out real good, while continuing to avoid the actual reasons why Johnny can't read, and then feel good about ourselves?

I submitted this proposal which is sure to be a winner:

We need to stop treating kids as a one-size-fits-all proposition.

I propose we create tiered content for kids so they never get bored, and divide the classroom into three areas that converge on a central area to discuss this.

The three tiers I suggest are: normal, collegiate and post-graduate tracks.

Normal is for people who will probably have jobs that do not require a college degree (IQ up to 120). Collegiate is for your low 120s, and post-graduate for the 125s and above.

This will make sure each student gets learning materials tailored to their attention span and abilities.

You, too, can tell them the joys of anti-egalitarianism. Allahu Ackbar! here

Rise of the Crypto-Troll

17 10 10 - 19:55

The crypto-troll: those who take delight in confounding or confusing mods, and prompting anti-idiot intolerance, by posting messages that look like they came from a useful idiot but are in fact designed to tax our patience.

Examples -- these may be actual idiots, or crypto-trolls, but I favor the latter:

Ikea is fantastic! Such wonderful designs, modern and stylish. Excellent value for money. Why else is it so popular? A home isn't a home without some smart Ikea furniture or furnishings. - DailyFail

Whenever God wants me to have a baby I will name her either Cape, Eloise or Cila (really love Cila Elizabeth, my middle name) and if its a boy I will name him either Wilmington or Ronald ( Ronald is my brothers name, love it!). Hope this helps!! - Blogger

Check out the names thread for a great WTF trip between actual idiots and people fucking with the idiots by listing stripper names for their middle class idiot babies.

Telegrams from life itself

17 10 10 - 19:36

Life is like a lake: on the surface, everything seems placid; underneath, there's the machinery that supports that surface, including some very savage predation and billions of micro-organisms digesting everything they can find.

Why would life not be like a lake? We'd like to think we're special and different, that all of evolution stopped after us because we're not glorified monkeys, we're little gods in suits. Yeah, not so much.

The Mexican billionaire, who Forbes still lists as the world’s richest man, said in 2007 that he could do more to help fight poverty by building businesses than by “being a Santa Claus.”

“The only way to fight poverty is with employment,” he said. “Trillions of dollars have been given to charity in the last 50 years, and they don’t solve anything.”

As for the Giving Pledge, he said: “To give 50%, 40%, that does nothing,” Slim said. “There is a saying that we should leave a better country to our children. But it’s more important to leave better children to our country.”

Oh my god -- did he just endorse eugenics?

Yes and no: he endorsed soft eugenics, or breeding more good people, instead of subsidizing idiot so they can breed recklessly because they're human too, man.

In this feverish pre-election season, last month it was America's Muslims taking the heat as the anger of a volatile and unhappy electorate bounces from object to object – with the furore and protests over the "Ground Zero mosque", an attack on a New York taxi driver and other ugly incidents around the country. This month, it seems to be open season on America's gay and lesbian community.

Well, how very interesting! People are getting angry at others who aren't going along with their plan! Why do you think that is?

Yale Professor George Chauncey has heavily researched the relationship between homophobia and economic instability. In his book Gay New York: Gender, Urban Culture and the Making of Gay, Chauncey examines how a poor economy can lead to a "crisis of masculinity", and discusses the effects of the Great Depression on gay culture.

The Guardian

The usual leftist horseshit: everything will be JUST FINE if you just spread the MONEY around.

The reason this issue is coming out in this debate: we're in the midst of a culture war.

Newsflash: people like to live around just like them

If you want to live a normal life, you don't want anything that leads your kids from that plan. Not alternate religions, not alternate sexuality, not drugs and not weird rock-n-roll lifestyles. In particular, you want to shield them until their early to mid-20s, when they can start making some decisions for themselves. (Note to parents: that age is now more like 30, since kids are angry at their lack of childhood and so are prolonging pseudo-childhood into their 30s.)

It's not homophobia, stupid. It's a desire to live with people like them, in a country like them, so that their parenting works out and their kids grow up to be like them -- which shows that they have put thought into their path through life, and eliminated other options. If you're a mother bird, you don't want your little birdlets growing up thinking they're voles. It just doesn't work.

Here's some stereotypical British vapidity:

Most shocking of all, perhaps, was the story concerning three men held hostage, assaulted and sodomised by a Bronx street gang called the Latin King Goonies as "punishment" for their perceived homosexuality (http://www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/10/12/new.york.hate.crimes.case/index.html).

This is just drugged out. On one side, we have the American right saying "we don't want homosexuality in our communities, at least publicly." On the other, you've got black and Asian gang members beating up (and sodomizing!) homosexuals. There's no correlation between these events except in the delusional mind that sees they fit the same category, if you skew all categories to be defensive and binary:

Tolerant / In-Tolerant

Caring / Un-Caring

Equal / In-Equal

Who would believe that kind of oversimplified fairy tale? Liberals, of course, because they're the tailings of industrial society -- people who have no idea how a society produces wealth, social order or progress, demanding what looks like progress, what looks like justice, etc. but never is. They are useful idiots for demagogues to manipulate, and nothing more.

More media vapidity:

The seventh tip is that a man should never ask a woman how men she has slept with, as this shows that he is suffering from insecurity. - TOI

From the culture clash again: the above is what liberals and sluts want you to think.

Sluts want you to think they can make bad decisions, blow 10,000 idiots and sleep with 1,000 dolts, and then have you love and care for them just as much. This is why they're all divorced, or miserable and cheating, in their 40s. They have no concept of love and fidelity and so lack what is required to form a long term attachment. As a result, they create a hellish environment for their kids, who grow up wanting to rape/kill.

The truth is, a man should ask a woman how man men she's slept with. Let's bring back competition into dating. "You gave your hole to 1,000 dolts? Well, over there is another honey who has given it to only a half-dozen, so she's probably more valuable. Just like a Mercedes is more valuable than a Buick, or a diamond more valuable than lead, rare things show importance and value. Sluts don't."

The liberal rejoinder is inevitably "have fun not getting laid then!!11!" My response is simple: if "getting laid" is all you have to list for your accomplishments in life, shoot yourself. You're a semi-sentient sausage, not a person with a soul.

From the "Hurr Durr, PhD" files:

During the three decades after World War II, for example, incomes in the United States rose rapidly and at about the same rate — almost 3 percent a year — for people at all income levels. America had an economically vibrant middle class. Roads and bridges were well maintained, and impressive new infrastructure was being built. People were optimistic.

By contrast, during the last three decades the economy has grown much more slowly, and our infrastructure has fallen into grave disrepair. Most troubling, all significant income growth has been concentrated at the top of the scale. The share of total income going to the top 1 percent of earners, which stood at 8.9 percent in 1976, rose to 23.5 percent by 2007, but during the same period, the average inflation-adjusted hourly wage declined by more than 7 percent. - NYT

Yes: if you get a sudden burst of wealth, like from the biggest wartime economy ever created, you can either invest in things that perpetuate that economy, or invest in things that distribute money (entitlements).

And the largest rising segment of government spending since 1945? Entitlements and payments to citizens.

So what happened? We stopped putting our money into the trickle-down, top-to-bottom order, and instead started handing it out on the street. Not surprisingly, that money goes into things that earn no further money. Fast food. Rent. Booze. Entertainment.

Once you've done that, who profits but those who pander to the proles? Entertainers, fast food, Coca-Cola, you name it. Your society has inverted itself from rewarding good behavior, to rewarding idiocy.

Thanks to your liberalism, America, you sabotaged your own economy.

Drug addicts across the UK are being offered money to be sterilised by an American charity.

Project Prevention is offering to pay £200 to any drug user in London, Glasgow, Bristol, Leicester and parts of Wales who agrees to be operated on.

The first person in the UK to accept the cash is drug addict "John" from Leicester who says he "should never be a father". - BBC

Predictably, the official Defenders of the Prole -- who are usually trustafarians looking for purpose in life and finding none, since they have no ambition and not enough wit to apply themselves to something less dramatic but equally important, like say water quality -- are outraged, but the outrage is slimmed down from 1992. In fact, it's barely there by those standards. We're all tired of the endless surging population of clueless people who leave stuffed diapers in parking lots, set their homes on fire with incompetence, send money to Nigeria to get rich fast, etc. If we're going to give them tons of money, let's at least make sure they don't fuck up further.

Causes and not Effects, Volume 29

Siegfried Rotthaeuser and his brother-in-law have come up with a legal way of importing and distributing 75 and 100 watt light bulbs -- by producing them in China, importing them as "small heating devices" and selling them as "heatballs."

To improve energy efficiency, the EU has banned the sale of bulbs of over 60 watts -- to the annoyance of the mechanical engineer from the western city of Essen.

Rotthaeuser studied EU legislation and realized that because the inefficient old bulbs produce more warmth than light -- he calculated heat makes up 95 percent of their output, and light just 5 percent -- they could be sold legally as heaters. - JAHOO

Idiot wisdom: something is bad, ban it.

Wisdom wisdom: if something bad is happening, we need to study why and then change that.

We have a light problem. We're six months away from having cheap LED bulbs. CFLs are a fail. Incandescents are favorable because although they burn a fair amount of energy, they're cheap -- so you can't be put in the poorhouse by vandals smashing your lights, or guests jacking them from hotels. They are a simple, mature, effective technology.

Until that situation changes, we're stuck with incandescents. A $2 LED bulb would change everything, and a government subsidy could lead to the R&D and more importantly, mass purchasing of such items to get them down to that price.

But instead, We The People demand action! So we get a law! Making more bureaucrats, more rules, more laws and more legal action! But we took action God damn it!

That's what happens when you put proles in charge of your democracy. Maybe it's time to go back to allowing only white males over 30 who own their own homes to vote.

God's Order is Equality, like the Liberal NWO, so we fight nature

More from the staggering stupidity of people who should know better files:

Buck said he believes sexual orientation is a choice.

Buck went on to say, "I think that birth has an influence over it, like alcoholism and some other things, but I think that basically you have a choice."

Bennet jumped on Buck's remark. "I absolutely believe he's outside the mainstream of views on this," said Bennet. - WP

I immediately dislike Bennet: "other kids won't think you're cool if you say that, and you'll eat lunch alone FOREVER!" What an emosexual.

But Buck should know better. Homosexuality is many things; it's genetic in many people and in the rest, the result of rape. When it's genetic, however, it's a bad news sign that something went wrong in the gene recombination and expression process. If you're nature, trying to make a new human and something goes wrong, you make sure they're not gonna breed.

Unless of course, some well intentioned Christian idiot comes along saying that all people are equal and we should assume all homosexuals have a moral choice not to be gay.

I disagree with him. I think other than the raped children, who are probably at least half of the gay community, homosexuals are biologically inclined to be what they are. So they need their own neighborhoods, where they can be gay and not care who's watching, since they're away from the conservative heterosexual neighborhoods.

Liberals are of course the biggest idiots here. "God says we're all equal" has become "we're all equal, because that's a popular notion, and if you disagree, no one will think you're cool and you'll eat lunch alone FOREVER."

Southern Europe: Less pretentious than the squeamish Swedes

Southern Europe is dirty, corrupt and lazy compared to northern Europe, which is one reason that northern European countries are so scrupulously moral, making them first radical Christians and second, radical liberals.

It's a form of hygiene for them, like cleaning their homes. "Vee are not like those self-interested barbarians, who think only of themselves, and live in filth and discriminate," say the Swedes. "Our minds are clearer and we are better people, and we use our wealth to help others, unlike those nasty selfish ANIMAL-LIKE brutes from the South."

Oh yeah...? Selfishness is part of the natural order because MOST PEOPLE ARE FUCKING CRAZY. Keeping them in line, and motivating them toward something other than rutting/eating/boozing/farting is how you make empires. And then we all enjoy the products of those empires. Hmm, maybe oppression is not only necessary, but less oppressive than non-oppression. Head explodes! (Maybe "oppression" sets up a false dilemma.)

Now our friends the garlic-stinkin', olive-oiled, positively barbaric sexist WOPS aer helping us out:

Anti-Gypsy campaigns in neighboring France have sparked international criticism, with officials there in recent months deporting more than 1,000 ethnic Roma - a clannish people migrating west in large numbers from Eastern Europe. But with great bravado, Milan is taking the lead in responding to Italy's own "Gypsy Emergency."

Blaming rising crime on the new waves of Roma immigrants, authorities are moving to dismantle Milan's largest authorized Gypsy camp, Triboniano, a teeming shantytown of street musicians and day laborers that officials decry as a den of thieves. At the same time, Milan is bulldozing hundreds of small, impromptu camps inhabited by newer arrivals and issuing mass eviction notices to Roma families living in another long-established camp in the city's largest immigrant neighborhood.

"These are dark-skinned people, not Europeans like you and me," said Riccardo De Corato, who is Milan's vice mayor from Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's ruling party and who is in charge of handling the camps. He later added: "Our final goal is to have zero Gypsy camps in Milan." - WP

Quote outrage... again, less than expected. Why?

Even our brain-dead media sheep are starting to figure out the rule:

People want to live near people like them.

Other than your clueless 23-year-old who has had one summer job, gone to college and now is just fucking SURE he knows how the world works, people recognize this.

If we're living conservative lives, trying to raise kids according to that value system, we want some way to keep our people together besides rules and cops. We want culture, so we want people who evolved in similar parts of the world and so are hardwired for similar values. We want people of our same social class and rough values system. We're tolerant on things like agnosticism or moderate liberalism, because they have at least a similar core values system and don't attack what we believe.

More for that fire:

America is known as the Great Melting Pot.

But a closer look at census data shows we're a lot closer to a dinner plate--with peas here, carrots there, potatoes here, and steak over there. In other words, we still have a very high level of racial segregation. - BI

150 years of political indoctrination, trillions of dollars in government programs, every entertainer you can find on the dial endorsing it and yet, multiculturalism hasn't really caught on -- except in the faddish, cosmopolitan centers of cities where neurotic hipster parents raise shellshocked kids named Quinn and Grayson who will grow up to be heroin addicts.

What does this mean?

These people are all in denial of realty itself. They will gladly debate us about:

  • How hard, so hard, it is to know what reality is

  • The symbols we use to describe reality -- are they real? are they not real?

  • How we should deconstruct this

  • How they don't understand what reality is

But for mature people, that's all happy delusional horse shit. We know what reality is -- it's the world outside of our heads. It has a visible part, which is the part we touch and smell and see, and an invisible part, which is "patterns" like gravity, the cycle of seasons, etc. which we can't immediate reach out and touch but they're there, and if we ignore them, we can get ratfucked.

Yet our proles don't like to hear this, because the idea of reality reminds them of their mortality and their powerlessness. What, I'm not a god-like being who makes decisions, but a complex computer wired to react in certain ways? What, I'm not wise, but simply a dumbass who's too dumb to know he's wise? What, I'm not important? The universe goes on without me? And then they throw a tantrum.

Now if you see a person throwing a tantrum, as a smart product seller you know one thing for sure: There's a source of that tantrum, and that person will pay anything -- literally anything -- to avoid facing that.

Remember all those old fairy tales about people selling their souls to Satan? That's what we've done in the modern time. The proles don't want to face reality, and they've got cash to spend, so...

Who cares if it destroys our one shot at existence?

Reversing natural selection

12 10 10 - 02:56

The principle of humanism is simple: assume that everyone is the same in essence. We want to think that we are all the same, which means that without having left our comfortable shell of assumptions, we are owed something by the world, most importantly recognition of our importance. The exception proves the rule, we think, because that way everyone is included.

The principle of life, which actually has to function unlike humanists from oil-rich nations, is the opposite: constant differentiation, a/k/a the Normal Distribution, is the essence of our existence. Some rise above others and some fall beneath. Instead of assuming we are all the same in essence, we test ourselves against one test that cannot be forged, which is reality itself. In this view, exceptions occur, but much more rarely than people would like to think.

We have reversed life so we can be good humanists together. An easy example:

A jury is set to decide whether Anna Nicole Smith's two doctors and lawyer-boyfriend gave her too many prescription drugs, contributing to her 2007 accidental overdose death.

Deliberations are scheduled to begin Tuesday morning in Los Angeles.

In closing arguments last week, opposing lawyers set forth dueling scenarios of defendants who were either trying to relieve the former Playboy model's pain or were savoring a brush with fame while feeding her addiction to medications. - AP

This what passes for news in the dominion of The People, which is more effective under consumerism than communism... she wanted to die. You can take the girl from the low-rent origins, but you can't take the low-rent origins from the girl. For that reason, her quest to somehow "prove" herself by getting others to not notice the insanity has failed. So instead she decided to take an assload of drugs, and the parasites gathered. What should we do? Shovel them all into the woodchipper. No humans involved.

Here's a more questionable one:

Diehl-Armstrong's trial was delayed for months when U.S. District Judge Sean McLaughlin determined she was mentally incompetent in July 2008. That occurred after Sadoff testified she once stored 727 pounds of cheese, 389 pounds of butter and 37 dozen eggs at her home — without refrigeration.

She's since been deemed competent, but pretrial court documents suggest Sughrue's defense will focus on her mental condition. He's not claiming legal insanity; that is, a mental defect so profound that Diehl-Armstrong couldn't tell right from wrong. - AP

This is Christian morality -- err, it's secular morality now, but the same thing -- at play: was she a moral actor? Was she aware? Did she mean to do it? -- well, sorry to interrupt the Happy Horse Shit Narcissism parade, but no one "means" to do anything. Nerve impulses fire, and they do it, then they invent reasons why. Of course they pick the easiest reason, which is the one that would fit on a Hallmark Card: "Why did I drink a whole bottle of Tequila and blow 1,000 men? Ah... well... errr.... I did it for world peace. WORLD FUCKING PEACE." (Crowd cheers, Nobel peace prize handed over quickly)

The fact is that whether Diehl-Armstrong is mentally competent, faking it or two states in between, she killed someone and could easily have killed more. Let's flip through her record here... ah, I see. Crazy, crazy, more crazy, ongoing crazy, continued crazy, and it keeps going from there. Did she mean to do it? Who cares? She's broken, so putting aside the fanciful stoned-and-seeing-Jesus morality for a moment, she's a bad animal that needs to be put down. Don't even make me (a taxpayer) pay for the rest of the trial; get a shotgun and the backside of a barn and do it quickly.

Now the one that will offend you, because that's why you're here -- you're looking for the outsider perspective because you're hoping your society isn't in decline, but you're pretty sure it is, which means anything that makes it to TV, newspapers, etc. is heavily edited to avoid that unpleasant truth. So, ask those who have already "stepped out" from the mainstream idea flood, and see what they say:

Advocate David Costello goes from camp to camp along the riverbanks trying to help the homeless residents cut wood for campfires this winter.

He said Monday that the homeless shelters in the city are full and it's not even cold outside yet.

"What's coming is scary. Nobody is fit to be out here this winter," said George Adams, a homeless man.

Adams has living outside near the river for three months. He worked in the floor covering business 25 years but lost his license and then his job.

He said he wants a job and his life back.

Dowling High School students recently brought backpacks filled with snacks and gloves, warm blankets and sweatshirts to the homeless camp.

KCCI reporter Cynthia Fodor said a pregnant woman who is expected to deliver in January is also living in the camp.

"She has no idea what she's going to do, needs a place to live, needs prenatal care," said Costello.

Three children are also living in another camp nearby. - KCCI

Our modern humanist/Christian narrative is this: since we're all the same inside, if misfortune happens, it is not our fault.

Reality is this: it's relatively random, but those who have misfortunes and then respond with insane plans are doomed to fail. And if they can't respond well to misfortune, they probably had some hand in its creation. The schoolkids bringing blankets are doing it for the same reason that people fellate 1,000 men for world peace: it sounds good. It will look good on their report cards, make their teachers seem like nice people, and might even flesh out a college application. They're doing it for themselves.

But these homeless... they lost their jobs, tragedies. Did they join the day laborer line at Home Depot? Well, why the heck not? -- you have nothing to lose at that point. Did they sign up for welfare or federal aid? One presumes, but we wonder where it went. Did they downgrade themselves to kitchen help, apply at a Starbucks, etc? Doesn't sound it, or they didn't get hired. Well, why not? We might as well ask why bears eat unattended babies. You lost your license -- how? You lost your job -- how?

The economy had a downturn, and the least sane went first. Now they're hanging out on the riverbed in a climate where it's known to get really cold. Are they building permanent homes? No? Well, what do they do all day, then? Answer: wait for God, or secular government, to bail them out. They hope. They're not able to make anything a certainty, least of all their own survival.

Helping people like this, or spending any more time raping Anna Nicole Smith's corpse, is a reversal of natural selection. Natural selection has no morality; it takes what works, e.g. those individuals that could motivate themselves to adapt to their situation, and lets the rest freeze on riverbanks (doubtless while intoxicated) or die twitching on floors in the Bahamas (certainly while intoxicated on the genteel drugs her impoverished background cruelly did not let her afford).

This holiday season, instead of further fucking up our species by preserving the insane, let's let them die. All of them. It's not like we have a shortage of people, although the more of these idiots we preserve, the less demographic sway the sane have in our neurotic society. And that's why the insane keep insisting we put on our moralist dunce caps and go save these people. Hail death, when it comes at the right time -- to each his due, and when he is insane, let that due be a painless but chilly death.

The peasants hate you, sir

05 10 10 - 08:20

Oh yes, how we love a revenge:

A descendant of the Habsburgs is taking Austria to the European Court for Human Rights for not allowing him to run for president.

Ulrich Habsburg-Lothringen could not become a candidate in April elections because he lacked the required number of signatures and Austrian law bars members of ruling or former ruling families from running for the post.

The Habsburg dynasty was once Europe's most powerful royal house. - AP

We, the peasants, would like to remind you that we won... by breeding recklessly, then blaming you for the resulting problems.

Now we've chosen shadowy oligarchs instead of honest aristocrats.

But remember, we must be equal!!1!
