Channel 4 was fined £1.5 million by the broadcasting watchdog Ofcom after it emerged that executives knew that viewers were entering phone-in competitions they could not win.

GMTV viewers who called the breakfast show's premium rate phone-in competition line have been cheated out of an estimated £10m a year because shortlists of potential winners were finalised "long before" phone lines closed, according to a BBC investigation.

It's increasingly a mistake trust anyone where money is concerned. But only fools phone competition lines.
