Britain's children in worsening situation

THE stream of reports this week highlighting the myriad ways that Britain fails its children has been astounding.

The number of children living in poverty has increased for the second year in a row to nearly three million, according the Department for Work and Pensions.

Children are being failed by councils that are struggling to tackle teenage pregnancy, substance abuse and obesity, said Ofsted.

Then there was the Children’s Commissioner’s report to the United Nations, which stated that more children were scared in their neighbourhoods, drank more alcohol, had deteriorating mental health and felt more pressure at school than their European peers.
