Immigration reform stalled in UK courts

The government suffered a blow today when new, tougher immigration rules for skilled workers who want to remain in the UK were declared unlawful by the high court.

Critics claimed that up to 90% of the 49,000 migrants who came to work in the UK under the original scheme faced being deported because they would have to reapply under the stricter new points-based system.

The judge said failing to act in favour of immigrants would amount to "conspicuous unfairness" and "an abuse of power".

It's always so convenient when the government proposes action against immigration and then cannot go ahead with it. Result: can't be accused so easily of being soft on immigration, thus stealing some nationalist thunder, yet still continuing with same destructive replacement of the population.
