For those of us longing to dig deeper into classical music, but do not know where to go on, I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on further pieces by Brahms to look into.

Other than the 4th Symphony and German Requiem, what other pieces of his do you think form the essentials of his music and content?

Intermezzi for piano

2 late sonatas for clarinet and clarinet quintet.

Sometimes the lieder. Check out the ones for viola piano and alto voice.

I really enjoy his organ works.

The Academic Festival overture is a storming and witty piece.

I think the 3rd is his greatest symphony.

His piano sonatas often sound like they want to be Beethoven's sonata #29. Since that's my favourite piano sonata, this isn't a problem.
