This CD is probably not the technical best representation of his work, but does I think a well-qualified job. Arcangelo Corelli writes very logical, passionate and orderly baroque music that captures the spirit of an age when people did not second guess nature. Even more, it has an intensity that little outside metal has ever attempted. I can see now why this guy is a perpetual favorite for baroque and classical fans, but I think metal fans should check it out too.

Most of the classical I've experienced is of the romantic period, which can feel a bit overemotional at times to me. This offers a welcome break. Any other baroque recommendations? I'm not really interested in listening to 250 different mediocre composers, so let's hear the best this school had to offer.

Joseph Haydn: Symphonies 44("Trauer") & 49("La Passione")
These "Sturm und drang"-symphonies are kind of transitional works between baroque and classical periods.
Wholeheartedly recommended!

The Italians do the best baroque. I keep it behind my lite jazz DVDs. Let's see...

Rossini and Vivaldi, the best
Paganini, quite beautiful
Monteverdi, a delight!
Scarlatti, if you like harpsichord, which I do
Sammartini, for you music scholars among us

Chop chop! To the Cd store!

I've been exploring Pietro LOCATELLI recently -- really good, halfway between CORELLI and ROSSINI in style.
