When Iggy Pop burst onto the scene in 1968, his music was not that distant from what pop bands of the time were playing, but the stripped-down aesthetic he embraced grew out of control, eventually birthing music which cast aside all theory for droning three-note riffs and violent cadences. This genre eventually proliferated into several styles before being absorbed by its own popularity, and in 1978, officially becoming candy-rock with the release of "Never Mind the Bollocks, Here Come the Sex Pistols." Of note are the Ramones, whose guitarist John Cummings said he wished to create "pure, white rock'n'roll, with no blues influence."
