One step away from a heavy metal/black metal fusion, the black metal from Greece was a smooth enough hybrid that it was not clearly recognizable as either style, but a uniquely poetic and melodically beautiful subgenre that embraced the occult with a fervor worthy of the ancients. Although relatively few bands practiced this style, and it was overshadowed by the more dynamic Norse styles of black metal, it was and is widely influential among metal musicians who wish to merge conventional musicality with the acerbic and lawless nature of black metal.
