     Police in Minneapolis and other cities have begun equiping their squad
cars with on-board computers.  As far as I can tell it is the same model
described below:

DXT Mobile Digital Terminal

    "The DXT mobile digital terminal directly links vehicles to a central
computer.  All data is transmitted, recieved and stored with error-free
precision in seconds, eliminating the delays and inaccuracies inherent in voice
communications.  On-board memory in the DXT allows the operator to be absent
and still receive multiple prioritised messages.
     "The DXT permits the despatch and receipt of information messages in
easily readable format; direct database enquiry and response; extensive data
collection/management reporting; fast response to field enquires; higher
utilizaiton of radio channels; and message despatch recall.  Integral to the
DXT terminal are such features as character-generated graphics with a standard
set of 128 graphic symbols; on-board memory capacity comprised of 35 individual
screeens of 384 characters each; 15 recieve-message buffers for storage of
incoming messages; and display of the first line of up to 20 messages in two
screens, eliminating line-by-line location scrolling.  Operating at 4800 bps
the terminal possess actual data throughput capabilities of 453 characters per
second."

If you have a scanner, try listening to 460.350 and 460.500, these are both
listed in the Radio Shit guide as being Mpls Pig channels.  You should hear a 1
second tone (like a carrier) followed by a 1 or 2 second tone (sounds like a
answer tone), then silence for a couple seconds then it repeats.  I've tried
recieving the messages, and the modem will give a connect message at 1200 baud,
but it only displays garbage.
