refraction

Refraction is the splitting of light into many different directions and colors. It is a symbol of chaos, and without it, all light would rapidly find a middle ground and average itself. At that point, there would not be any light sources, only an indistinct ambient light, like daylight without a sun.

Humans as thinking agents tend to be selective refractors. Information comes our way, and we split it and output it with fragments of our own experience coloring it. Who knows what it means.
